Nspire Founders Grant Honors 8BIT
Gwinnett Innovation Park (www.gwinnettinnovationpark.com), a unique, affordable, low risk space alternative for start-ups, entrepreneurs, independent professionals and teleworkers, announced today that 8BIT is the winner of the $25,000 Founders Grant Award for the second quarter of 2012. 8BIT is a high-tech startup that has big dreams of disrupting the online publishing industry using open source technology. Sponsored by the Gwinnett Innovation Park (GIP) and Intelligent Systems, the Founders Grant Award is a quarterly award to a company that is part of the eHub Nspire Program or is a qualified company in the GIP — $100,000 will be awarded annually.
“The Founders Grant Award is intended to give back to the entrepreneurial community by rewarding entrepreneurial excellence and helping deserving companies continue on their path to success. The Nspire companies presented very compelling presentations, however we selected 8BIT because we believe the funds can be a ‘propellant’ to help them achieve an important near-term milestone,” said Leland Strange, local serial entrepreneur, investor and supporter of hundreds of technology companies in the Atlanta area over the last 30 years. “8BIT has recognized a problem in the online publishing industry and sees a solution. We believe the Founders Grant will help 8BIT reach the next level with their business and look forward to working with them on their continued success.”
8BIT’s team members are passionate about online publishing and work everyday with businesses and individual publishers that have a lot to communicate. Their customers need to do it faster, more efficiently, and more comprehensively than ever before, but are dependent on antiquated technologies, legacy systems, and closed services that slow their online publishing efforts. 8BIT’s solution is to create an ecosystem of tools and applications, both online and offline, centered around the presentation of published content that make publishing as intuitive as an iPod, as simple as reading a book, as natural as breathing, as pervasive as Facebook, as immediate as Twitter, and as intelligent as Google.
“8BIT has loved being a part of the Nspire program as they’ve helped us get even closer to our goal as a team and company by providing space for us to work and collaborate as well as opportunities for us to network,” said John Saddington, Co-Founder. “We are honored to receive the Founders Grant and know that the money will help us continue on our path to creating the best online publishing solution. We have had a blast at GIP, not just learning, but giving a little bit of ourselves, creatively by customizing the work environment at GIP and offering our services to other teams.”
The Founders Grant is part of the eHub Nspire Program which helps support Atlanta technology entrepreneurs by providing them with resources and benefits to help them succeed, including office space at Gwinnett Innovation Park at no cost for one year. The Gwinnett Innovation Park Trustees, a panel of distinguished entrepreneurs and Atlanta business professionals, select the quarterly honoree based on the merits of the business summary, interview and demonstration of a compelling use of the award funds by an Nspire company that has been a resident for at least one quarter.
